Ice climbing is about balance, precision, and trust. In this fundamentals clinic, you’ll learn the core techniques of ice climbing, from equipment use and safety systems, to efficient movement on ice. Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, you’ll build confidence, refine your technique, and develop a solid foundation in a real alpine environment. Designed for beginners, this is your entry point into vertical winter terrain.

Educational goals

Develop fundamental ice climbing skills through focused instruction, guided demonstrations, and hands-on practice. Learn how to use equipment correctly, manage safety systems, and move efficiently on ice while receiving individual feedback in a real alpine environment.

What to bring

Ice axe, crampons, harness, and helmet are required for this clinic.
Participants may bring their own equipment if they have it.
Technical equipment rental is available for €10 per person and can be added during checkout.

Clothing & personal gear
  • Warm beanie

  • Neck gaiter

  • Thermal base layer

  • Fleece or midlayer

  • Insulated jacket

  • Waterproof shell (waterproof overpants recommended)

  • Extra t-shirt or thermal layer

  • Thermal leggings

  • Insulated pants

  • Warm socks

Hands & feet
  • Two pairs of warm gloves

  • Waterproof mountaineering boots (semi-automatic or automatic)

Backpack & accessories
  • 32–40 L backpack

  • Sunglasses

  • Trekking poles for the approach

  • Headlamp (recommended, not mandatory)

Food & hydration
  • Thermos with hot drink (approx. 1 liter)

  • Snacks, energy bars, or packed lunch

Level

This clinic is designed for beginners who want to experience ice climbing for the first time or build a solid foundation in the discipline. No previous climbing experience is required, either on rock or ice. Participants should be comfortable spending a full day outdoors in winter conditions and have a basic level of aerobic fitness to manage the approach. The focus is on learning, safety, and skill development in a supportive, guided environment.


A member of the weAltura media team will join the clinic to document the experience. Photos will be taken throughout the day and shared with participants after the event via a private download link. Selected images may also be used on weAltura’s social channels.
